What is the difference between a sinner and a saint

The same with Christianity, but what seems different and a bit confusing is the idea that we are both saints and sinners at the same time. Even those concepts of sin and saint are not reflected in the other religions, and I wonder what that has to do with reality and my commitment to being a Christian. I like a lot of Christian stuff, but what about this idea? Good for you that you are realizing that to come to full maturity means that you have to make some serious decisions about what, who, and how you will choose to live.

Lots of options these days that you will want to examine. Saint and sinner. They kind of describe their meaning. Saint is good, sinner is bad. These days bad sinner is not a very popular notion and the mainstream is that everybody is basically good. But is that loosy-goosy idea actually reality? There are plenty of people that are deeply flawed and their badness is not a momentary mistake. Nashvillegirl 5 books view quotes. Nov 11, PM. Patricia books view quotes. Sep 22, AM. The Theological Dictionary of the NT states:. The sinner is the man who does not allow God supreme authority over his life and who withholds from Him total dedication and obedience It need hardly be said that this implies a new gulf of unfathomable depth right across humanity.

This gulf is deeper than that which existed between the righteous and sinners prior to the coming of Jesus, for it is not created or maintained by men, but has arisen and continually arises from the act of God in Christ. Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked , nor stands in the way of sinners , nor sits in the seat of scoffers Psalm Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, Nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.

Psalm , NASB. For the Lord knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish. Psalm If the righteous is repaid on earth, how much more the wicked and the sinner! Proverbs Realizing the fact that law is not made for a righteous person, but for those who are lawless and rebellious , for the ungodly and sinners , for the unholy and profane In other words, all sinners, without exception or qualification, are wicked, ungodly, lawless, etc.

These are terms used in Scripture as direct opposites of that of a believer. He keeps the feet of His godly ones , But the wicked ones are silenced in darkness. But know that the Lord has set apart the godly for himself; the Lord hears when I call to him. Preserve my life, for I am godly ; save your servant, who trusts in you—you are my God. The Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials, and to keep the unrighteous under punishment until the day of judgment.

Dear brothers and sisters, if another believer is overcome by some sin, you who are godly should gently and humbly help that person back onto the right path Gal. It is not used in the sense of one who commits a sin but of one who practices sin or lives under the dominion of sin, which is the antithesis of the Biblical description given of the Christian. An act is different from a state of sin.

In other words, to use the term of a believer we must redefine the word.. It is evident that the Jews in the time of Christ considered all those outside the covenant of God as sinners Luke With many, their error was not in making the distinction, but rather in their failure to recognize that they themselves were not living righteously before God and were, therefore, sinners even as the gentiles.

Did He come for those already redeemed? No, His call was to sinners that they might repent of their sin and be reconciled that they might become saints of the Most High God. Do all things without grumbling or disputing, that you may be blameless and innocent , children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world.

This hardly sounds like the words coming from the lips of a man that was sinning all the time. An ever increasing number of Biblical scholars agree that Paul is speaking of the unregenerate, as did nearly all the early Greek fathers.

But if, in our endeavor to be justified in Christ, we too were found to be sinners , is Christ then a servant of sin? Certainly not! For if I rebuild what I tore down, I prove myself to be a transgressor.

For through the law I died to the law, so that I might live to God. If the work of Christ in freeing us from the law would result in lawlessness would it not be considered a great evil and an advancement for the cause of Satan rather than God? If freedom from the law is freedom from righteousness then the spread of the Gospel becomes a ministry for the expansion of sin rather than that which impedes it.

Would we not have to say then that the law is superior to Christ in ministering against sin? At least the law constrains men from acting out the desires of their sinful hearts. However, Paul says, By no means! Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? Shall we continue as sinners? How can we who died to sin still live in it?

For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God. For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life. Paul uses the terms, ungodly verse 6 , sinner verse 8 , and enemies of God verse 10 , interchangeably. He uses these terms in the past tense; when we were still weak, were ungodly, were still sinners, were enemies of God, Christ died for us.

However, now in Christ, we have strength Eph. We are no longer sinners 1 Jn. If you love those who love you, what benefit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them.

And if you do good to those who do good to you, what benefit is that to you? I explain how saving faith works, and how we can tell if we are saved or not in my post How do we know if we are saved?
