How does wwoof work




















Hosting WWOOFers can be hugely rewarding as you are enabling people to learn about organic growing techniques. You will also be demonstrating an alternative way of life. Many WWOOFers are so inspired by the experience that they end up changing their lifestyles and even setting up their own organic farms! As a host you are improving communication and aiding growth within the organic movement.

Volunteers Usually you live with your host and are expected to join in and cooperate with the day to day activities. Hosts If you have a farm, smallholding, garden, allotment, vineyard or woodland and follow organic or sustainability principles, you might consider opening your home to WWOOFers.

I want to volunteer in several different countries. Is there a global membership? WWOOF is structured on a national level. When you join one of these countries you will only receive the list of hosts in that country. Subscribing to these lists will enable you to visit farms in more than one country — though not necessarily the ones you want!

WWOOF organisations act as a contact between farms and volunteers. Some WWOOF groups visit each host before they are accepted, others require further checks or references. Other groups do no checks and rely on user feedback. As many WWOOF organisations are not-for-profit they do not always have the resources to visit their host farms.

So you need to directly ask the WWOOF group that works in the country you want to visit what checks they do on their hosts. In general — when arranging to visit a WWOOF host you must take all the precautions you would take when visiting someone you do not know.

If they get a complaint about a host it is investigated. If the complaint is upheld they are removed from our lists and cannot join again. This applies to volunteers too! It can be difficult to find hosts that exactly suit your needs without knowing which country you want to visit. So you really need to think about what countries most interest you and then concentrate your search in those countries, by previewing and searching the host list.

Please note that there is no guarantee that the host you are interested in will be available at the time you want to volunteer. Providing you are fit and well enough to work for hours per day — there is no upper age limit for WWOOFing.

We would however recommend that you tell your host in advance about any physical limitation you may have. In Europe, wwoofing is widespread and you may choose between many different hosts.

In the United Kingdom for instance, over hosts welcome wwoofers. In France, hosts have already joined the movement. Wwoofing is possible in many other European destinations: how about spending two weeks in a farm in Norway hosts or in Estonia 50 hosts?

Outside Europe, wwoofing is very developed in countries which attract many workingholiday-ers: there are nearly hosts in Canada and New-Zealand over 1, hosts and Australian 2, hosts organizations are extremely active. And for off the beaten track experiences, there are endless possibilities: a Patagonian ranch in the middle of nowhere, a tea farm in China, a rice field in Chiba, Japan, a farm in South Africa….

Whether you are seeking a first time wwoof gig or would like to wwoof your way around the world , procedures are always the same and are quite simple.
